As Houston foodies and home chefs know, there's no better place to be on a Saturday morning than at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market. The farmers market began in 2004 with just a small group of farmers and gardeners. It has since flourished into a beloved Houston institution with more than 70 vendors. You can pick up locally-produced fruits and veggies, freshly-milled flour, artisanal bread and so much more.
The Urban Harvest Farmers Market is now even offering drive-thru service. Customers have the option to pre-order, pre-pay, and have all their goodies ready for convenient curbside pickup. It couldn't be any easier to enjoy the bounty of produce and products from Texas farmers and small businesses. The market is also located less than 20 minutes away from our Houston apartments, which makes this fun Saturday tradition so easily accessible. Here are three popular vendors that you can order from ahead of time.
All We Need Farm
This small dairy farm is known for their award-winning goat milk popsicles. Imagine a popsicle that's actually good for you, as well as incredibly delicious. These artisanal treats are made from just fresh milk, fresh fruits and cane sugar. No preservatives or stabilizers included. Order online to try flavors like Banana Pudding, Lemon and Pineapple.
Animal Farm Center
This sustainable, permaculture farm is one of the best local resources for organic vegetables, including the heirloom varieties that will often be found at high-end restaurants. Animal Farm Center is also known for growing beautiful, organic flowers that make incredible bouquets. You can sign up on their website for a $25 produce box with 7-8 items. Flower lovers can also sign up for their $20 flower box and enjoy a new bouquet every week.
Bee2Bee
These "hyper local" honey products were produced right here in Houston, courtesy of ethically-harvested backyard beekeepers. Shop online for products like lavender-infused honey or a natural moisturizer made from beeswax.
