Every day in Houston, nonprofits strive to help everyone lead happier, healthier lives. If you would like to support their cause, here are three Houston nonprofit organizations near our apartments in Houston that always appreciate the community's support:
Houston Food Bank
A proud member of Feeding America, the Houston Food Bank is the country's largest food bank in distribution. Established in 1982, it distributes meat, fresh produce, and non-perishables to 800,000 people every year. The food bank serves residents in eighteen southeast Texas counties, and also provides nutrition education and health management to families in need. Every dollar donated provides three healthy meals. Both one-time and monthly donations are accepted online in any amount.
Citizens for Animal Protection
Better known as CAP, Citizens for Animal Protection cares for pets in need through sheltering, adoption, and community outreach. The shelter opened in 1972, and offers a sanctuary until the pets find forever homes. It also provides spaying/neutering and low-cost wellness services. To help CAP, shop from its Amazon Wish List for needed items such as dog food, bleach, and kitten milk replacement.
Recipe for Success
When Bob and Grace Cavnar decided to combat childhood obesity, Recipe for Success was born. They help children better understand what they eat, and create a culture where healthy food is celebrated both in Houston and beyond. Recipe for Success has grown to become the country's largest outreach of its type. The Cavnar's have spent millions perfecting its curriculum and reach over 4,000 children every month. Online donations are accepted through PayPal, and the money helps pay for gardening supplies, aprons, and more.
